UPDATE: Man charged in Escanaba attempted robbery

UPDATE, 12/21/16:  Escanaba Public Safety is trying to identify customers who were in El Patron at the time of the incident.  Officers are asking customers to come forward and contact detectives so more information can be gathered, no matter how minimal the customer feels their observation may be.

ESCANABA, MI--    The suspect in an armed robbery attempt at an Escanaba restaurant has been identified.

Alejandro Castillo, 21, of New Mexico is wanted as a fugitive from that state for armed robbery.  He was arraigned Tuesday on charges of assault with intent to rob while armed and being a fugitive from justice. 

Castillo is accused of entering the El Patron restaurant Monday around 11:30 a.m. with a club and an air soft pistol.  Employees were able to keep him away from the cash register and in the building until police arrived. 

Officials say additional charges are being investigated.

Castillo remains lodged in the Delta County Jail.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
