UPDATE: Hancock fire displaces Tech students, faculty member

UPDATE:  Michigan Tech has determined that seven students and one research faculty member and his family were displaced in the apartment building fire in Hancock early this morning. 

The University has helped all of them find alternative housing for the remainder of the semester.

HANCOCK, MI--   Fire has destroyed an apartment building in Hancock, displacing several Michigan Tech students and a faculty member and his family. 

Tech officials say the fire on the 1500 block of Anthony Street happened early Friday morning. No one was injured.

Residents were taken to Wadsworth Hall on campus, where they will be housed and fed.

Michigan Tech’s Incident Command Team is meeting to determine and respond to the needs of the affected students and faculty member.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
