UPDATE: Elderly Houghton woman dies suspiciously

UPDATE, 9/30/13, 5 p.m.:   WLUC-TV reports Timothy Cadeau, 29, of Houghton has been charged with homicide and first-degree home invasion in connection with the death of Geraldine Fouts, 84. 

Cadeau is being held on a $1 million bond at the Houghton County Jail. 

The court has ordered an exam to determine if Cadeau is competent to stand trial.

UPDATE, 9/30/13, 10 a.m.:  Houghton Police have made an arrest in the case and are seeking charges against the suspect.  More information is expected to be released after the suspect has been arraigned.

HOUGHTON, MI--   Authorities in Houghton are investigating what they're calling a suspicious death.  

The Mining Gazette reports officers found the body of an 84-year-old woman at the Douglass House Apartments Saturday around 11 a.m.  There had apparently been a breaking-and-entering. 

A person of interest is being questioned by police, who removed a man from the apartment building around 3:50 p.m. and took him to the Houghton County Jail.

Michigan State Police, the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Hancock City Police, and Michigan Tech Public Safety assisted at the scene. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
