Two-vehicle crash in Ishpeming leaves one dead

ISHPEMING, MI--   An Ishpeming Township woman has been killed in a collision with a dump truck.

City Police say the accident happened Friday around 10:23 a.m. on US-41 in front of the Family Dollar store.  They say Samantha Lee Bonovich, 19, of Ishpeming was attempting to turn west onto the highway from the store parking lot.  She pulled out between two National Guard trucks that were in a convoy and stopped for a red light at Second Street.

Bonovich was trying to travel to the westbound lanes when her vehicle was struck by a Freightliner dump truck that was eastbound in the passing lane and approaching the light.  The truck had a full load of dirt at the time of the crash.

Bonovich died at the scene.  The driver of the dump truck, Jeffrey Alan Johnson, 46, of Marquette, was taken to Bell Hospital, treated, and released with minor injuries.
