SAWYER, MI--   Sawyer International Airport soon will have a new airport manager and a director of operations.

Marquette County Administrator Scott Erbisch announced hires for both jobs.

Duane Duray accepted the airport manager's job and will start work at Sawyer in October. Erbisch says Duray has been employed at the Gogebic-Iron County Airport since 1992 and has been the manager there since 2006.

The airport manager's position was vacated May 1st when Keith Kaspari left the post to take a job as deputy executive director at the Capital Region Airport Authority in Lansing.

And The Mining Journal reported Saturday that Steve Schenden has been named the new director of operations at Sawyer.  Schenden was an employee with Marquette County during the K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base transition process.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
