Two lanes of International Bridge to be closed for repairs

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI (AP)--   Two of the four northbound toll lanes on the International Bridge connecting the United States with Canada will be closed starting Monday as part of a project to replace concrete showing premature signs of wear.

Bridge officials say they need to replace concrete in one lane because it did not meet Michigan Department of Transportation specifications. Officials say once the concrete is replaced, one lane will reopen while the other lane will remain closed for up to four weeks while the concrete fully cures.

The work is being done to fix work that was completed last year as part of an $8.9-million toll plaza project.

The operation of the bridge and its maintenance are self-funded, primarily through toll collections.
