Two killed in Gladstone crash

GLADSTONE, MI--   A husband and wife from Gladstone were killed in a two-vehicle accident Friday in the city.

Michigan State Police say it happened around 1:45 p.m. on US-2 & 41 in front of the Delona Restaurant.  Investigation and witness statements indicate Jack and Virginia Johnson pulled out of the parking lot and into the path of a northbound vehicle driven by a 47-year-old Rapid River woman.

Jack Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.  Virginia Johnson was airlifted to UPHS Marquette, where she was later pronounced dead.  The other driver sought her own medical care.

Troopers say alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the crash.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
