Two-car crash in Chocolay Township claims man's life

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Skandia man has been killed in a two-vehicle accident in Chocolay Township.

State Police from the Negaunee Post say the crash happened Sunday around 10 p.m. on US-41 South at Hillcrest Trail.  Investigation reveals Duncan Ryan-Ross, 25, of Skandia was southbound on 41 when he went off the right side of the roadway.  He over-corrected his vehicle, which traveled back onto the roadway, crossed the centerline, and struck a northbound vehicle driven by Megan Niemi, 24, of Marquette.

Ryan-Ross had to be extricated from his vehicle.  He was taken to U.P. Health System Marquette and pronounced dead at 11:26 p.m.  Niemi was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Marquette City Police and Chocolay Township Fire/First Responders assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
