Troopers, Munising resident involved in Negaunee Township crash

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Three people—two of them Michigan State Police troopers—were taken to the hospital, following a three-vehicle crash in Negaunee Township.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says Tuesday around 10:50 p.m. the troopers’ patrol vehicle, its emergency lights on, was stationary in the inside lane of US-41 near Pond Road providing traffic control for a prior crash.  A Chevy Malibu driven by Trevor Witty, 19, of Munising was in the process of passing a Dodge Charger when his vehicle lost control.  It hit the Charger then careened in the patrol vehicle.

The troopers and Witty were taken to UPHS Marquette for evaluation of neck and leg pain.

Witty was cited for speeding and failure to exercise due caution when approaching an emergency vehicle.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
