Troopers, Dickinson County schools win safety award

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain Post, Forest Park School, and North Dickinson School have won a state honor.

They’ve received the 2014 Governor’s Traffic Safety Advisory Commission Award for Outstanding Traffic Safety Achievement.

The award focuses on school bus safety and stepped-up police patrols to address vehicles passing buses while their red lights are flashing.  Officials say the program resulted in a significant decrease in the number of incidents.

Representatives from the post and the two schools attended a March 25 luncheon in Lansing honoring their dedication, leadership, and service to traffic safety.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
