Troopers chase man on four-wheeler in Bessemer Township

BESSEMER TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Gogebic County man is jailed after he led state police on a high-speed chase on his ATV.

Sunday around 12:30 a.m. troopers in Bessemer Township saw a four wheeler do a U-turn on US-2 near the Ramsay Crossing.  The ATV fled westbound on Trail 2 and crashed into the southeast corner of the Bessemer Small Engine building.

The driver then fled on foot north across US-2, pursued by troopers from the Wakefield Post and deputies from the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department.  They eventually caught the suspect as he ran through neighborhood yards.

The 23-year-old Ramsay man sustained minor injuries to his head when he ran into a metal clothesline pole as he fled from police.  He was taken to Aspirus Grand View Hospital, treated and released.

The man is charged with fleeing and eluding, operating while intoxicated, and driving while license suspended.  He remains lodged in the Gogebic County Jail on a $1,500 bond.
