Traffic fatality in West Iron County

IRON COUNTY, MI--    One person was killed when a vehicle hit a road grader in Iron County Wednesday.

Sheriff’s officials say it happened just before 8 a.m. on US-2 near Wild River Road.  They say an SUV rear-ended the grader, which was clearing the shoulder of the road. 

Three passengers in the vehicle were injured and taken to Aspirus Hospital. A fourth passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.  The operator of the grader sought his own treatment for minor injuries. 

The accident closed a portion of US-2 for about seven hours. 

The names of those involved in the crash have not been released, as it remains under investigation.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
