Temporary replacement for Archbishop Sample chosen

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette Diocese has a new administrator.

The College of Consultors has elected Father Francis Dobrzenski of Lake Linden to serve in the post.  He replaces the former Bishop Alexander Sample, who became Archbishop of Portland last week.

Dobrzenski will carry out administrative duties until Pope Francis appoints a new bishop or other apostolic administrator.  He will also continue as pastor at St. Joseph Parish in Lake Linden.

Church law says the administrator’s function is to maintain the status quo until a new bishop takes possession of the diocese.  No innovations are to be implemented.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
