Teen found at fault for Ely crash

ELY TOWNSHIP, MI--   An Ishpeming teen was injured in a two-vehicle accident in Ely Township Tuesday morning.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 7:50 a.m. on US-41 at County Road 478. Deputies say Leah Wisuri, 17, of Ishpeming had pulled onto the highway off of CR 478 when she lost control of her vehicle. The car spun around and was hit on the passenger side by a pickup driven by Richard Taylor, 66, of Arizona. Wisuri’s vehicle went into the ditch and ended up on the driver’s side, while Taylor’s truck came to rest on top of Wisuri’s vehicle.

Wisuri was helped out of her car through the front windshield. She was taken to UPHS-Bell for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Taylor was not injured.

The teen was cited for failure to yield.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
