Teen arrested for Stanton Township fire and stolen firearms

STANTON TOWNSHIP, MI--   An arrest has been made in the case of a house fire and missing property in Stanton Township.

The fire was reported May 26 at a home near Houghton Canal Road and Osma Plat Road. After the flames were extinguished the homeowner discovered money and guns were missing. The house was a total loss.

Acting on a tip, troopers from the Calumet Post developed information that led to the arrest of a 15-year-old boy for breaking and entering and arson of a dwelling. The juvenile was petitioned into Houghton County Family/Probate Court.

Troopers recovered all of the stolen firearms and nearly all the money.

Due to the age of the offender, no further details of his identity can be released.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
