Suspects in Mellen Township break-in charged

MENOMINEE, MI--   Two men believed to be involved in the break-in of a Menominee County home Monday have been arraigned.

Matthew Franjose, 19, and Thomas Hartman, 20—both of Green Bay—are charged with home invasion.  They and a third suspect allegedly broke into a Mellen Township home around 5:30 a.m.

Officials say when the unidentified third suspect entered the home, the 62-year-old homeowner fired a gun.  The 19-year-old man was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds at the scene.  Franjose and Hartman were later found by Michigan State Police in nearby woods.

A preliminary exam for Franjose and Hartman is set for November 24.  They remain lodged in the Menominee County Jail on $25,000 cash bonds.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
