Suspect charged in Elmer's Country Market trashing

ESCANABA, MI--   A man accused of wreaking havoc in an Escanaba grocery store earlier this month has been charged.

Police say on March 16 Evan Peterson, 33, threatened an employee at Elmer’s Country Market with a knife. He then locked himself in a storage area, trashed it, tried to set fire to a hot water heater, and fell through the ceiling of the deli department.

Peterson is charged with arson—preparing to burn property $20,000 or more, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault—resisting a police officer, causing injury, and three counts of assault—resisting a police officer.

Officials say additional charges could be brought against Peterson.
