Suspect arrested after Chippewa County woman kidnapped

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed kidnapping over the weekend on 15 Mile Road. 

Saturday around 1:30 p.m. a man reportedly confronted a husband and wife with a handgun while the two were in their back yard.  The suspect forced them into their house, then directed the wife into his vehicle and drove away. 

Deputies located the vehicle a short time later driving southbound on Mackinac Trail near Rudyard.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The hostage was not injured. 

The suspect was arrested on two counts of kidnapping, two counts of felonious assault, home invasion, and a felony firearms charge. 

Deputies were assisted by the Sault Tribe Police Department, US Border Patrol, and the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
