U.P. students to gain education in environmental issues

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Superior Watershed Partnership in Marquette has been given $200,000 to expand Great Lakes educational programming.

The grant from the Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative will help K-12 students become the next generation of stewards for Lakes Superior, Michigan, and Huron.

Activities will address environmental issues through science, language, social studies, math, and the arts.  The SWP and partners will engage in such projects as lake monitoring on a Great Lakes research vessel, stream restoration, habitat improvement, and climate change research.

Partners will include the Marquette-Alger RESA, the Northern Michigan University Seaborg Math and Science Center, Upward Bound, and North Star Academy.
