Statewide average gas prices down 2 cents

DEARBORN, MI (AP)--   AAA Michigan says average gas prices statewide have declined about 2 cents in the past week.

The Dearborn-based auto club said late Sunday that the average price for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline was about $2.85 per gallon. Prices are about 42 cents more than at the same point last year.

More pain at the pump is expected this summer, however. Crude oil prices are at the highest level in more than three years and are expected to climb higher, pushing up gasoline prices.

Michigan's lowest average price was about $2.79 per gallon in the Marquette area. The highest was about $2.89 per gallon in the Ann Arbor area. The Detroit-area's average was about $2.87.

AAA Michigan surveys daily fuel prices at 2,800 gas stations across the state.
