State transportation economic development grant will support new jobs in Keweenaw County

michigan.gov

UNDATED - The Michigan Department of Transportation is awarding a grant to support the creation of 31 new jobs in Keweenaw County. A Transportation Economic Development Fund – or TEDF -  Category A grant for about $137,000 will leverage $1.58 million in private investment.

The funds will be used to turn ‘Number 6 Road’ connecting Neuvokas Corp. and US-41/M-26 into an all-season road. The company purchased an abandoned building in Allouez Township in order to expand its operations.

The Keweenaw County Road Commission will also add shoulder and drainage improvements to the road.

The TEDF helps finance highway, road and street projects that encourage private investment in Michigan resulting in job creation or retention. Eligible road agencies include MDOT, county road commissions, cities and villages. More information about the program is available online at www.michigan.gov/tedf
