LANSING, MI (AP)-- Michigan's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has fallen 0.3 points to 5.6 percent in the latest month to a level a full 2 percentage points lower than one year earlier.
After years as one of the nation's centers for joblessness, Michigan now has an unemployment rate a mere 0.1 points above the national rate of 5.5 percent.
The U.S. rate didn't change in March.
The state Department of Technology, Management & Budget announced the new employment figures Wednesday. It says the main reason for the drop last month is a 12,000 decline in the size of the state's labor force.
The department says the number of people working rose by 2,000 to 4.479 million, while the number of unemployed fell by 14,000 to 267,000.
