LANSING, MI (AP)-- A nearly 50-foot blue spruce from Sault Ste. Marie has been selected as Michigan's 31st official Christmas tree.
The tree will be cut down Oct. 27 and displayed outside Michigan's Capitol building.
It's being donated by Al Farrish and will arrive in Lansing Oct. 29. The tree is in Farrish's yard about 2 miles south of the Soo Locks.
Farrish nominated his tree last year, but Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget employees decided it wasn't big enough. State officials announced Tuesday the tree is the right size this year because Capitol staff wanted a smaller tree placed closer to the street.
The anchor pit was moved when new lighting and sidewalks were installed near the Capitol.
The tree lighting will occur Nov. 18 during Lansing's Silver Bells celebration.
