Stabenow introduces legislation to help pay for prescriptions

ISHPEMING, MI--   U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow was in Ishpeming Tuesday to unveil legislation she says would lower the cost of prescription drugs.

She held a press conference at the Senior Center to talk about three acts she’s introduced.

Stabenow says the Know the Lowest Price Act would crack down on gag clauses that prevent pharmacists from telling customers they could pay less if they pay out of pocket. The Empowering Medicare Seniors to Negotiate Drug Prices Act would let the Secretary of Health and Human Services directly negotiate with drug companies for discounts under Medicare Part D. That is banned under current law. And the Affordable and Safe Prescription Drug Importation Act would allow for the importation of drugs from licensed Canadian sellers. The drugs would have to be manufactured at facilities inspected by the Food and Drug Administration.
