Stabenow discusses fish, Alzheimer's in the Soo

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI (AP)--   U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow visited Lake Superior State University's Aquatic Research Laboratory Thursday, where biologists are working to boost Great Lakes fishing and water resources.

The lab partners with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to produce Atlantic salmon for release into the St. Marys River, which links Lakes Huron and Superior. The lab also rears coaster brook trout in hopes of restoring the once-abundant fish to Lake Superior tributaries.

During her visit to Sault Ste. Marie, Stabenow also hosted a discussion of legislation she’s proposed to improve early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease through the Medicare program.
