Stabbing in Hubbell claims female victim

TORCH LAKE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A woman has been stabbed to death in Houghton County. 

Sheriff’s deputies were called Friday around 3:30 a.m. to the scene in Hubbell and found two females with multiple stab wounds.  A 48-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene, while a 14-year-old girl—who had called 911—was taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital for treatment. 

A 42-year-old male suspect had fled the scene but was apprehended around 5:25 a.m.  He is currently lodged in the Houghton County Jail for felony aggravated assault, and the Sheriff’s Office is seeking a murder charge. 

Officials continue to investigate the crime scene and will release more information as it becomes available. 

Deputies were assisted by Houghton and Hancock City Police, Laurium Village Police, the Keweenaw County Sheriff's Office, Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post and the MSP Forensic Crime Lab, Bootjack First Responders and the Houghton County Medical Examiner.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
