Snyder wants 'wholesale revisions' to road-funding formula

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Governor Rick Snyder is calling for "wholesale revisions" of how Michigan divvies up road construction money after he vetoed legislation that would have ended a requirement that 45 cities cover some of the cost of state road projects within their limits.

Snyder vetoed the measure last week despite it winning unanimous approval from lawmakers. Snyder says forcing the state to fully fund certain highway projects would result in $22 million less for other projects.
The bill sponsor, Republican Senator Marty Knollenberg of Troy, says legislators should consider overriding the veto. He says some cities shouldn't be forced to pay for an Interstate 75 widening project while others owe nothing more.
Snyder isn't specifying how the funding law should be rewritten except to say it has "archaic and complicated provisions."
