Snow caves in Keweenaw restaurant roof

keweenawreport.com

LAURIUM, MI--   The roof of a Laurium restaurant has collapsed under the weight of a large amount of snow.

The Keweenaw Report says the banquet hall next to the Irish Times fell in Tuesday night.  Owner Lisa Ronan says it appears the snow was just too heavy for the structure to bear.

The hall is a popular spot for receptions, meetings, and parties.  No people were inside when it happened.

Although connected to the pub, the hall is a separate building, so no other part of the restaurant was affected.

Ronan says the pub will be closed until Friday while they deal with the collapse. She says the hall may have to be demolished, but she’s thinking of putting a beer garden in its place.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
