Small wildfires hit U.P.

MENOMINEE, MI--   Firefighters in Menominee and Chippewa counties were busy over the weekend battling wildfires.

A Department of Natural Resources plane spotted the Menominee County fire Saturday afternoon.  It spread to about three acres and threatened some buildings before being brought under control by DNR firefighters out of Norway and the Faithorn Township Fire Department.

Naubinway DNR firefighters and the Trout Lake and Hulbert fire departments handled the Chippewa county fire.  Officials say it was also a few acres and threatened some structures.

Both fires were extinguished and no injuries are reported.

Firefighters say dry conditions and higher temperatures likely helped start the fires.
