Sled dog race winners mush back to Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI--   Keith Aili of Ray, Minnesota crossed the finish line first on Sunday to win this year’s UP200 sled dog race.

He came into Marquette’s Lower Harbor at 11:04 a.m. Denis Tremblay of Quebec came in second place seven minutes later. And Martin Massicotte of Quebec rounded out the top three, crossing the finish line at 11:18 a.m.

Joanna Oberg of Ignace, Ontario came into the Lower Harbor first Saturday night to win the Midnight Run. She crossed the finish line at 11:20 p.m. Frank Moe of Grand Marais, Minnesota took second, arriving at 11:33. And Larry Fortier of downstate Gaylord was third, crossing the finish line at 11:40 p.m.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
