BESSEMER TOWNSHIP, MI - A single engine airplane has made an emergency landing on US-2 in Bessemer Township.

The Gogebic County Sheriff's Department says the Piper Cherokee landed safely at around 4:45am today near Blackjack Road.

The pilot, Aaron Routsala of Ironwood, was flying from Gogebic County Airport to Iron River when the trouble started.

He attempted to get back to the Gogebic County Airport but was forced to make the emergency landing.

Routsala was not injured in the incident.

The plane was towed back to the Gogebic County Airport.

The sheriff's department says the FAA was notified and they are investigating the incident.
