Severe thunderstorm beats up Marquette County

MARQUETTE, MI--   Marquette County emergency responders, utility companies, and the County Road Commission are working to clean up the region, following a severe storm that passed through the area

early Monday morning.

UPPCO and the Marquette Board of Light and Power say more than 2,000 residents are without power as of 6:30 a.m.

Several roads are closed in the Negaunee and Ishpeming areas because of downed trees, power lines, and other debris blocking roadways.

They include:

US-41 at County Road 496

Cooper Lake Road

Stoneville Road

County Road 581 at County Road PPR

M-35 at the Negaunee Township Hall

Multiple roads in the City of Ishpeming

US-41 just west of Westwood Drive

Officials remind residents never to approach downed power lines. Instead, contact Central Dispatch so the fire department can be sent.
