MARQUETTE, MI--   Nine people became American citizens in Marquette Federal Court Tuesday.

Representing seven countries, the newly naturalized residents celebrated with family and friends.  Michigan representatives and aides stood in for those who couldn’t be at the ceremony.  An area Boy Scout troop was also in attendance.

The nine were given the opportunity to register to vote after they took their oaths.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
