Sentencing set for Escanaba assault suspect

ESCANABA, MI--   An Escanaba man initially charged with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder has pleaded to lesser charges.

Michael Jones, 22, was accused of assaulting two men, breaking van windows, entering a residence without permission, and fleeing police in a January incident.  He pleaded guilty on Friday to third-degree home invasion, fleeing and eluding, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and operating while intoxicated.

Jones’ original charges also included assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of malicious destruction of property.

Sentencing is set for April 15 in Delta County Circuit Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
