Semi nearly hits cars at Marquette Township dealership

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A logging truck narrowly missed hitting several cars at Fox Motors Marquette when it left the roadway in Marquette Township Tuesday morning.

Troopers from the Negaunee post say 18-year-old Kassie Metcalf of Newberry was driving the Western Star semi-tractor trailer through the area around 4:45 a.m. when she fell asleep at the wheel.  The truck travelaled through the ditch and came to rest near several vehicles on display at the Fox Motors inventory lot.

The truck wasn’t loaded at the time and damage was limited to the undercarriage.  Officials say several nearby vehicles may have been damaged by flying debris.

Metcalf was cited for careless driving.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
