Scholarships going to 116 MAPS graduates

MARQUETTE, MI--   Every graduating senior in Marquette who requested assistance will receive a scholarship this year.

The Marquette Area Public Schools Education Foundation Board says of the graduating class of 250 MSHS and Alternative High School students, 116 will get financial help to further their education. The scholarships total more than $150,000, and will be given out at a May 22 ceremony.

Board President Judy Vonck says the foundation has been working toward a goal of “A scholarship for every MAPS graduate.” She says sound investing, the hard work of board members, and the support of the community helped them achieve that goal.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
