Sadowski and Cope sentenced

MARQUETTE, MI--   Two Ishpeming men will spend many years in prison on torture and kidnapping charges. 

Jason Sadowski, 44, and Charles Cope, 66, were convicted in March of holding

Two women captive in Sadowski’s basement, beating them, and threatening to kill them last July. 

In Marquette County Circuit Court Monday Judge Jennifer Mazzuchi sentenced Sadowski to 40 to 80 years on each of two counts of torture and one count of solicitation of murder; 5 to 10 years on each of two counts of assault by strangulation; and 10 to 15 years on each of two counts of unlawful imprisonment.

Cope was sentenced to 25 to 40 years on each of two counts of torture and 10 to 15 years on each of two counts of unlawful imprisonment. 

All sentences will run concurrently. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
