Saatio back in custody. Again.

SAN JOSÉ, COSTA RICA--   The Michigan man who escaped from a Costa Rican detention center has been recaptured.

The Tico Times reports John Saatio fled the center through a ventilation duct Sunday.  He had been there for about three weeks, after having applied for refugee status to avoid deportation back to Houghton County.

The Public Security Ministry says a patrol found Saatio Tuesday in a canton immediately south of San José.

He’s charged in Michigan with home invasion, destruction of police property, and a probation violation.  Saatio is also a registered sex offender.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
