Roads reopened following gasoline spill in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI--   Roads around a Marquette Krist Oil gas station were blocked off, following a large fuel spill Sunday.

Around 4:20 p.m. Marquette Police, Fire, and Public Works departments responded to a spill at the station on Lincoln Avenue. A large amount of fuel was released while a tanker was filling the station’s holding tanks.

Firefighters evacuated residents on the 1000 block of West College Avenue. Several streets in and around the area were blocked off while crews applied sand to soak up fuel pooling on the roadway.

Officials say streets surrounding the gas station were reopened around 4:00 Monday morning, and residents have returned to their homes.

The cause of the leak and the actual amount of gas spilled remain under investigation.
