Repair Cafe comes to Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI--    Residents who have items that need to be repaired, from toasters to necklaces to bicycles, can take them to Marquette’s new Repair Café at Peter White Public Library.

Saturday, April 15 from noon to 4 p.m. the Arts and Culture Center will have experts available to help make all possible repairs free of charge. Tools and materials will be on hand.

Items that can be brought to the event include—but are not limited to—toasters, lamps, hair dryers, clothes, bikes, toys, and crockery.

By promoting repairs, Transition Marquette County wants to help reduce mountains of waste. According to TMC’s George Girod, “We throw away piles of stuff in the United States. Even things which practically have nothing wrong with them, and which could easily be used again, after a simple repair. Unfortunately, many people have forgotten that they can have things repaired. Repair Café wants to change all that.”

Girod adds it’s also a means to get in touch with our neighbors in a new way, and shows how fun repairs can be.
