Recreation Passport grants headed to U.P. municipalities

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has given 21 communities across the state a portion of $877,000 in Recreation Passport grants.

Recipients successfully presented projects that increase public access to outdoor recreation.

U.P. awardees include the cities of Marquette, Kingsford and Norway; Nadeau Township in Menominee County, Waucedah Township in Dickinson County and Calumet Charter Township; and the Village of Garden.

Funding for the grants comes from the sale of the Recreation Passport, which is needed for vehicles to enter state parks and recreation areas.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
