Primary election registration deadline Monday

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Michigan residents have reached the last day to register to vote in the August primary election. 

Secretary of State Ruth Johnson reminds voters that Monday is the deadline to register for the Aug. 5 primary. The process is open to U.S. citizens who are at least 18 years old by the election and residents of the Michigan community in which they seek to register.

People can register by mail or in person at any Secretary of State office or at their township, city or county clerk's office.

Polls on Aug. 5 will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Contested races include those for the U.S. House as well as numerous state House and Senate seats.
