Prescription drugs likely a factor in Blaney Park crash, officials say

BLANEY PARK, MI--   A Mackinac County man is being blamed for causing a two-vehicle accident in Schoolcraft County.

The crash happened Saturday around 12:15 p.m. on M-77 in Blaney Park.  State Police from the St. Ignace Post say Pamela Jones, 71, of Atlanta, Michigan was driving northbound at 55 miles per hour when she was rear-ended by another vehicle driven at a high rate of speed by a 61-year-old Curtis man.  Both vehicles went out of control and into the ditch.

The drivers were taken to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Police say prescription drugs were a factor in the accident and are seeking operating under the influence of drugs charges against the Curtis man.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
