Prescribed burning held in U.P. counties

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is conducting prescribed burns in Iron and Schoolcraft counties Friday.

The 94-acre burn in Iron County is about 2 ¼ miles south of M-69. Officials say it will maintain openings by reducing woody stem cover and promote blueberry production for wildlife.

The 25-acre burn in Schoolcraft County is off of Dump 1 Road in Thompson Township. It also aims to reduce woody vegetation and slash to maintain openings for wildlife.
