Portion of Iron Ore Heritage Trail getting revamped

NEGAUNEE, MI--   A portion of the Iron Ore Heritage Trail in Marquette County is closed this week for a paving project.

The two-mile section starts at Healey Avenue in Negaunee and ends just north of the CN railroad crossing.  The project includes replacing aggregate with asphalt, which is longer-lasting.  It’s expected to last about a week.

Heritage Trail users can detour using Case Street to Baldwin Avenue to US-41 to County Road 492.  A spur trail near the Michigan Iron Industry Museum connects 492 back to the Heritage Trail.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
