Police search for Christmas resident

NEGAUNEE, MI--   Authorities are looking for a missing Alger County man. 

Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post say John Michael Hongisto, 69, was last seen leaving his Christmas residence Tuesday around 1:30 p.m.  He was driving a 2001 red Ford short-box pickup with a white capper that bears Michigan registration BBU9456.

Troopers say it’s unknown where Hongisto was headed, although he’s an avid outdoorsman. 

Hongisto is described as a 5’8”, 190-pound white male with gray hair and blue eyes. 

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call the Negaunee Post at 475-9922.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
