Police pursue, arrest high-speed driver near Skandia

SKANDIA, MI--   State Police in Negaunee have arrested a driver after the suspect led them on a high-speed chase on US-41.

Wednesday night around 8:40 a trooper tried to stop the subject for speeding near M-94 near Skandia.  When the driver refused to stop police pursued the car south to Kiva at a high rate of speed.  The trooper ended the chase when the suspect vehicle turned onto a snow-covered and slippery county road.

Investigation led to the identification of the suspect, who was later found inside the vehicle.

The subject is lodged in the Marquette County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding police, resisting and obstructing arrest, and driving without a valid driver’s license.

A name has not yet been released, pending arraignment.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
