UPDATE: U.P. phone outage reported

UPDATE, 8/12/16, 10:26 am:  Michigan State Police say long distance service has been restored across the U.P.

____________________________________________

NEGAUNEE, MI--   From the Michigan State Police Negaunee Regional Communications Center:

The Upper Peninsula is experiencing telephone outages over a wide area.

The problem seems to be isolated to long distance calls.  Attempts to place a long distance call results in a “fast busy” signal and then an announcement that “all circuits are busy”.  911 service is unaffected and cell phone calls are unaffected. The long distance carriers have been contacted and are working to resolve the problem.

People are reminded that, if you have an emergency, or immediate need of police, fire, or EMS services, call 911.  If you have a non-emergency or a question, please wait until the long distance problem is resolved.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
