One trapped in vehicle after Marquette Township crash

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Three people were taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle accident in front of Wal-Mart in Marquette Township.

Sunday around 11:10 p.m. sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of US-41 and County Road HQ.  They say a Dodge Neon driven by a man from Kingsley, Michigan failed to stop at the flashing red light while leaving Wal-Mart.  His car was struck by a westbound GMC Yukon driven by an Ishpeming man.

One of the passengers in the Neon had to be extricated by the Marquette Township Fire Department with the Jaws of Life.  Two passengers and the driver of the Neon were taken to UP Health System Marquette for treatment.  The driver of the Yukon sought his own treatment for minor injuries.

The driver of the Neon was cited for disregarding a flashing red light.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
