ONTONAGON, MI (AP)-- Michigan officials are warning boaters about a debris field floating in Lake Superior after 85 boats were destroyed by storms earlier in the week at a Wisconsin harbor.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says debris is expected to come ashore through the weekend at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in the western Upper Peninsula. A drifting boat, dock and woody debris were among the things reported in the water.
The park posted signs cautioning boaters.
Much of Saxon Harbor, which is in Wisconsin near the Michigan border, was washed away in the storms. In Michigan, flooding from severe storms Monday washed out a bridge and damaged a trail at the Porkies. Some cabins and campsites are closed.
A tornado also touched down in Michigan near Bessemer.
